What is the best grain type of paper for colored pencils to blend them well?
i am having trouble with blending colored pencil. i tried many papers , but none of them provided a good blending. Recently, i tried Canson drawing paper with medium grain. Coloring was very good and smooth but blending was not that much easy. Please tell me the best type of paper and grain ? P.s. , i didn't try the smooth side of the Canson paper, so i don't know if it works or not.i dont use any special blending tool for them. i use paper towel or cotton. my pencils are not expensivce or good ones. but i like them , it is called Raffine.

Whats the difference between colored pencils and colored graphite?
I'm looking for something similar to a colored pencil but is manipulated and blended with a blending stump like a normal pencil. i saw somthing called colored graphite is that just fancy words for colored pencils or is there a difference?

I want to color something black... And idk what color to lay down first. I know it's suppose to be lighter. Theres gonna be orange around the black tho.. Should I invest in artist level colored pencils?
Admittedly I'm not at a superb level of art yet, I've only really started to get " serious" about it. I'm not planning on drawing for a career or anything its just a hobby. And colored pencils are the medium I feel most comfortable with using. I've been using really cheap ones over the years like crayola and crazy art but I can still create an interesting looking colors using those, at least I think. I've been a believer that there's no point in buying artist level materials if you can't make decent with something more affordable. This is my latest picture with colored pencils fc05.deviantart.net fs70 f 2012 011 1 0 envy by isabellapiano d4m2s82.jpgIt's not quite finished yet but you get a sense of how I color, this one was done with crazy art colored pencils.So am I at a level where it would be good to upgrade? If so which brands? And will it make that much of a difference if I do?

Artist quality colored pencils?
Could anyone help me in deciding what colored pencils to buy? I've used like, Crayola all my life and although I do love them, I'd like something that blends a lot better, has more pigment, and something exceptionally good for lots of layers.I do a lot of shading in my art, and blending one color to the next and so on. To give you a bit of an idea, I recently drew.and colored a phoenix, and did its tail feathers in rainbow, so I used a lot of colors to blend and fade into the next color. I also do a lot of 'anime' esque type pictures, if that helps to explain a bit more of what I'm looking for. but I don't want like a super soft lead that's just going to smudge all over, either.Some help please?
